Key Points:

The Karen Read trial has left major questions in its wake after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. STS examines the divided jury, the fallout from the mistrial, and the latest developments involving Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Proctor. Proctor’s reported “re-assignment” adds another layer to the controversy surrounding the investigation into Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe’s death. Could his role and credibility become even more important if prosecutors pursue another Karen Read trial? STS breaks down the legal and investigative questions, the evidence that remains disputed, and what both the prosecution and defense could do next. The Karen Read trial may be over for now, but the fight over what happened to O’Keefe—and what happens to Karen Read—may be far from finished.
